Central Texas Winery Photo Tour

central texas wineriesThe Austin Business Journal recently profiled the Central Texas winery business in it two articles, The Sweet Side of Central Texas' Wine Industry and The Sour Side of Central Texas' Wine Industry.

There are more than 30 wineries in the Texas Hill Country to the west of Austin. Many of these vineyards are relatively new the wine making industry but have been getting notice outside of Texas.  The limestone rich soils and intense heat of the Hill Country make some Mediterranean grape varieties, like Sangiovese, really stand out.  The recent drought had a major impact on the wine industry here but the welcoming rains have really helped out.  Due to the climate and unpredicable weather, many wineries in the area still need to import grapes from California.

Central Texas winery tours are very popular in the Hill Country area, especially outside of Fredericksburg where the majority of well-known vineyards are located.  Other wineries such as Spicewood Vineyards and Flat Creek Estate are located near scenic Lake Travis drawing many lake visitors.  To attract visitors, some wineries offer bed and breakfast packages, event halls and even have their own restaurants.
